Colly not tempted to call up in-form Kieswetter
CAPTAIN Paul Collingwood admits batting sensation Craig Kieswetter has impressed the England selectors – but says he will not be drafted in for today’s opening Twenty20 international with Pakistan in Dubai.
South African-born Kieswetter smashed 81 off just 66 balls in the Lions’ five-wicket victory over the senior side on Wednesday – his first day as a fully-qualified England player.
Kieswetter is already being touted for a place in England’s Twenty20 World Cup squad, but although impressed with the Somerset wicket-keeper/batsman, Collingwood is keen to keep faith with his current squad for this two-match tour.
“We’ve pretty much got the side set in our minds and we’ve got a squad to choose from,” he said. “All the guys yesterday had a certain pressure to perform well and he [Kieswetter] certainly did that but there is no temptation to bring him in for tomorrow’s game. We will have to be at the top of our game to beat them but we believe we’ve got the skills and the players here.”
