CITY VIEWS: WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE RISKS, IF ANY, TO CHINA’S SOARING ECONOMIC GROWTH?
DUNCAN JUDD | MEDITATION
“I really don’t think there are any great risks. But we’ll have to see how China continues to develop, and if there is enough manpower and financial backing to develop resources. It’s up to individuals to see that the Chinese economy continues to grow.”
ALAN SAUNDERS | RBS
“You have to take into consideration that China is a large exporter. Will they have a market in the future if the US and UK economies continue to face a recession? Will they be able to carry on with their trading if ours and America’s buying power declines?
JEREMY ROTHWELL | CHATEAU FIDUCIAIRE
“The main risk will come as people become wealthy and the Chinese government will be unable to control the population as they have in the past. A lot of envy and corruption will come to light in a country that is so big and diverse”
MARTIN CAMPBELL | NEWLINE
“There are risks for other countries that are reliant on the Chinese economy such as Australia. Australia was doing much better than other nations, in part because of China. If the Chinese economy starts to overheat and slow down, it will effect other countries.”
