CITY VIEWS: DO YOU THINK THERE IS MORE STABILITY IN THE HOUSING MARKET?
JOHN ATHOW UBS
“I think that house prices will drop again. There’s a lot of false confidence around. House prices are still high in London because there’s a lot of demand and very little supply. Estate agents are pushing up the market. I doubt that as many houses are being sold as before the crunch.”
TREVOR WOOD BERWIN LEIGHTON PAISNER
“I think that there is definitely more confidence in the market. But the price rises currently being reported aren’t sustainable. There’s a lot of hot money chasing bargains due to the weak pound, but I think that the housing recovery is likely to stagnate.”
GARETH HIRD MCBAINS COOPER
“I think different regions are forecast to rise and fall in price. But I don’t believe that prices will fall again in London. There is a restricted supply of properties, certainly at the top end. There’s a lot of overseas buyers coming on the London market and pushing up prices.”
