Aviva
The insurance giant has appointed Tim Harris as its new deputy chief financial officer and chief capital officer.
Harris is currently chief financial officer of Aviva’s European business. He has also been the group’s chief accountant and, before that, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Aviva has also appointed Richard Dewar, the chief financial officer at RSA in Ireland, as its new Solvency II director.
Clifford Chance
The law firm has hired Tim Lewis as a partner in the corporate practice in London.
Lewis is currently a senior mergers and acquisitions partner at Macfarlanes and has over 24 years of experience working for major corporates and investment banks.
He joined Macfarlanes in 1985 and became a partner in 1994, and has worked on high-profile deals including the $9bn acquisition of Vin & Spirit by Pernod Ricard and the £8bn acquisition of Hanson by HeidelbergCement.
Pinsent Masons
Al-Harith Sinclair is to join the law firm to head up its new Islamic finance practice, responsible for developing opportunities in Dubai and the wider Gulf and EMEA region.
Sinclair previously worked at Pinsent Masons five years ago as a partner, before leaving to join DLA Piper when it set up operations in the Gulf.
He subsequently headed up DLA Piper’s Islamic finance practice in Dubai before returning to London at the end of last year.
JO Hambro
The investment management firm has appointed James Du Boulay as manager of funds distribution, a role based in London.
Du Boulay will be responsible for marketing the firm’s Waverton UCITS fund range and the Pepin and Tai Chi hedge funds.
He joins from HIM Capital, where he was head of sales and marketing.
CBI
The CBI has appointed Will Morris of General Electric as chairman of its taxation committee.
Morris, a member of the committee for the past five years, has been senior international tax counsel and director of European tax policy at General Electric since 2000.
He is also a vice-chairman of the Business & Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) to the OECD and chair of the European Tax Policy Forum.
WP Carey
The investment firm has hired H. Cabot Lodge, III as president of its UK subsidiary. Lodge will serve as head of European investments and has over 25 years of deal experience, including 15 years with WP Carey in the past.
He was most recently managing partner of CL Prop, a real estate advisory and corporate net lease management company he created as a joint venture with Structure Tone Equities.
