Clifford Chance
The law firm has elected Michael Bates and Robert Lee as the new joint practice area leaders for its London finance practice, effective for a four-year period starting tomorrow.
Bates, pictured, has been a partner since 2001 and specialises in acquisition and leveraged financings in the infrastructure sector. Lee, a partner since 1997, focuses on structured financings, restructurings, corporate banking, syndicated lending and acquisition financing.
Jefferies
The bank has hired Cyril Paillard as a managing director in mortgage and asset-backed securities sales in Paris, where he will cover institutional clients in France and northern Europe.
Paillard has 18 years of experience in the sector and joins from the Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was EMEA head of credit structured products and solutions sales. He has also worked as head of fixed income sales for France at ABN Amro.
Lloyds Banking Group
The bank has appointed a 13-strong support services team to its Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets business, focusing on research, transport and logistics, financial services, advisory, outsourcing, HR and facilities management.
The team will be headed up by Tony Nash, an area director in the support services division.
CDC Group
Dr Ian Goldin is to join the development finance group as a new non-executive director.
Goldin, who replaces Professor Jonathan Kydd, has previously held senior roles as vice president of the World Bank, chief executive of the Development Bank of Southern Africa and principal economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He is also a former adviser to Nelson Mandela.
Ernst & Young
The accountancy firm has hired Roy O’Neil as a new partner in its Europe, Middle East, India and Africa financial services business.
O’Neil joins the performance improvement team from Deloitte, where he has been a partner in the financial services practice since 2003. He has a wide range of experience in the UK and continental Europe, conducting major advisory work across the insurance and banking industries, particularly in the areas of finance transformation, financial systems implementation, post merger integration and operational performance improvement.
Howard Kennedy
The law firm has appointed Jacqui O’Keeffe and Edward Butler as partners in its projects team.
O’Keeffe was previously a partner with Simmons and Simmons and specialises in environmental, energy and infrastructure projects.
Butler worked in the construction team at Pinsent Masons.
