Simmons & Simmons
The law firm has hired Jonathan Marsh as a partner in its non-contentious financial services regulatory practice. Marsh joins the firm from Berwin Leighton Paisner, where he was a partner specialising in financial services from 2006. He has also worked at Hunton & Williams, Hammonds, Sempra Metals and Linklaters in the last decade. He brings the total number of lawyers in the Simmon & Simmons international regulatory practice to 30.
BNP Paribas
The banking group has appointed Robert Adie to the newly created role of global head of credit research and strategy. Adie will start at BNP in August, and will be based in London. He joins from Barclays, where he was European head of credit research. Prior to this he led the European credit strategy team at Lehman Brothers. He also spent six years at Salomon Brothers as head of European emerging markets.
Adam & Company
The Scottish private bank has hired Andy Nicol for the new position of head of business development. Nicol was a professional rugby player until 2003, playing for Bath and the Scottish national team were he was captain during seven international games. Following his retirement from the sport he has worked as a rugby commentator for the BBC and STV, before joining RBS as a business development manager in 2006. His took up his most recent role as area manager of private clients at RBS in 2009.
Mercer
The financial and recruitment consultancy has appointed Le Roy van Zyl as a senior consultant. Van Zyl will be based in London, and will advise pension fund trustees and corporates on pension risk management and asset strategy. He moves from HR consultants Tower Watsons, where he was a senior corporate investment consultant. He has also held investment-related roles at Alexander Forbes, Towers Perrin and the Netherlands branch of Mercer.
AIM Advisory Group
Philip Secrett has been appointed as chairman to the group, which advises the London Stock Exchange on matters affecting the operation of AIM. Secrett is the international director of capital markets at Grant Thornton, and previously worked on secondment at the London Stock Exchange in the equity markets group.
State Street
The financial services firm has promoted Nicholas Bonn to the head of its securities finance business. Bonn, currently executive vice president, has worked at the firm for 18 years. He will be responsible for trading desks in London, Boston, Hong Kong, Sydney, Tokyo and Toronto. His most recent role was global head of sales and client development for the global markets arm of the company. State Street has also hired Doug Stern and Yvonne Wong to its enhanced custody business, which advises on long/short and leveraged strategies.
