National Savings & Investments
The commercial secretary to the Treasury, Lord Sassoon, has appointed James Furse (pictured) as non-executive director on the board of National Savings & Investments. Furse joined the NS&I board on 1 January and replaces Sir John de Trafford MBE, who became NS&I’s chairman on the same date. Furse joins NS&I after a long career with the John Lewis Partnership, where he rose to managing director of Greenbee.com, now John Lewis Financial Services.
Genus
Catherine Glickman, until recently head of HR at Tesco, will join the animal genetics company Genus as group human resources director on 5 January. She will become a member of the Genus executive leadership team and will report directly to chief executive Karim Bitar. In addition, Denny Funk, the company’s chief scientific officer, has joined the company’s executive leadership team.
SJ Berwin
Neil Upton is joining SJ Berwin to lead the development of the law firm’s energy and infrastructure team with Elaine Gibson-Bolton. Upton has previously been global head of power at White & Case and global head of energy at DLA Piper.
IMS Group
The regulation and compliance consultancy has appointed four new consultants. Dominic Williams, Elisebeth Slater and Michael Strug join as compliance consultants, and Saira Farooq joins as a consultant in the regulatory transactions team. Williams joins from J Rothschild Capital Management, Slater moves from the Financial Ombudsman Service, Strug joins from the spreadbetting firm GFT, and Farooq previously worked at City law firm Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.
HarbourVest
Stuart Howard has joined the investment firm as chief operating officer, European listed products. Based in London, Howard will oversee HarbourVest’s role in the operations of HarbourVest Global Private Equity and HarbourVest Senior Loans Europe. Howard joins the firm from 3i, where he was most recently chief operating officer for Asia and the Americas.
Tullett Prebon
The inter-dealer broker has appointed Simon Underhill as head of options trading on the London base metals desk, reporting to joint desk managers Mark Sedgwick and Steve Walter. Underhill, a former board member of the London Metal Exchange, previously worked for Newedge Group SA. He has also held senior positions at Bank of America Corporation, HSBC Holdings and Mitsui Bussan Commodities.
