Together
Specialist lender Together has appointed Colin Kersley to its retail board. As an independent non-executive director, Colin will also chair the retail audit committee. Colin was previously chief executive officer of M&S Bank (a wholly-owned subsidiary of HSBC) where he worked closely with the independent board to convert the card company to a bank, which was launched in 2012. His career in financial services spans over 40 years, having joined Midland Bank in 1975 and then HSBC in 1995, and he has held senior roles across retail, commercial and corporate banking.
London Market Group
London Market Group has appointed Susan Jakobek as managing director of Placing Platform Limited (PPL), a priority market initiative for the London market target operating model which allows users to place business electronically. Sue joins from market software provider, Adsensa, where she was intimately involved in building the company from early-start to maturity. She has 30 years’ experience in the technology sector working with leading corporations, as well as boutique and start-up enterprises, principally focused on the financial services and insurance sectors. David Ledger, chairman of the PPL Board said “We are delighted that Sue has joined us at what is an exciting and significant point in the project. Her combination of market understanding, technical knowledge and operational expertise will be a tremendous addition to the team.”
Markel
Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed James Leach as managing director of its newly consolidated accident and health and contingency business, part of Markel’s specialty and financial lines division. James said: “I have just got back from the North American Contingency Association meeting in the Bahamas and it’s been exciting and rewarding to tell brokers about our plans. They have been well received and I’m looking forward to the challenge of working on this book in the future.”
Woodsford Litigation Funding
Lara Bird has joined Woodsford Litigation Funding as investment officer, reporting to Steven Friel, the firm’s chief investment officer. Lara Bird is a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and a registered foreign lawyer in England and Wales. She previously worked for one of New Zealand’s oldest and largest law firms, Bell Gully, before joining the London office of global litigation firm Hausfeld & Co. LLP, where she specialised in financial services and general commercial litigation
