Richard Howling is set to become new chief operating officer following Mark Stupples’ decision to try something different after over three decades at JLL UK. After 32 years within the business, and having successfully managed the merger and integration of King Sturge with JLL UK, Mark will be leaving at the end of 2016 to establish his own consultancy business. Richard takes over as UK chief operating officer from 1 January 2017.
CivilisedBank, the new branchless digital bank with Local Bankers, has appointed Patrice McDonald as non-executive director and chair of its risk committee. Patrice is a highly experienced risk and regulatory expert with over 20 years’ track record in investment, business and retail banking, as well as across wealth and asset management. A former managing director, global chief risk officer and head of governance at Barclays Wealth, Patrice has been lead adviser and partner in the financial services risk and regulatory practice at EY and has advised the boards of many of the largest UK and International financial services groups. She is also an adviser and contributor to Board Agenda, which provides briefings for boards on governance, strategy, risk, and ethics.
Tpsynrex, a joint venture between interdealer broker Tullett Prebon and Synrex, has appointed Gareth James as managing director. Gareth brings over 20 years of alternative asset product and structuring expertise to the team set up by Stephen Ashworth and Mark Baker. Gareth was global head of hedge fund derivatives at Deutsche Bank, and global head of hedge fund solutions at UBS. Starting as a securitisation lawyer with Lovells, he has carved a niche in the design and structuring of investor products across all forms of alternative assets. He has also built successful independent businesses including the Liquid Alpha Alternative UCITS platform, acquired by UBS in 2012.
Law firm Boodle Hatfield has strengthened its construction team with the appointment of partner John Wevill. John joins the firm from Clarkslegal, where he was a partner in its London office. He was previously a senior associate at DWF and in-house counsel at Laing O’Rourke. He brings to the firm more than 15-years’ experience of advising on high profile and big ticket construction projects. Schemes on which John has advised include Qatar 2022, the redevelopment of Quadrant 1, Regent Street, the redevelopment of Lambeth College at Nine Elms, the development of Bath South Gate, the Royal Opera House Open Up project and Cambridge Judge Business School.
