Chartered Management Institute
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has named the senior financial services leader Bruce Carnegie-Brown as its new president elect. Bruce, who is also a Moneysupermarket.com non-executive chairman, will spend a year working with current CMI president Mike Clasper before starting his two-year term when Clasper steps down in September 2017. He has held a number of non-executive roles including vice chairman and lead independent director of Banco Santander SA, a non-executive director of Santander UK and a non-executive director of JLT Group. Previously, Bruce worked for 25 years in a variety of roles, including managing partner of 3i Group’s quoted private equity business, CEO of Marsh McLennan’s UK and European businesses, and a managing director of JP Morgan. He is also a trustee of Historic Royal Palaces and a deputy lieutenant of Greater London, a past president of the Institute of Bankers; and a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Starling Bank
Starling Bank has appointed Scott Chow to its executive leadership team as chief product officer. Scott joins to lead the agile product development already well underway, designing, testing and building Starling’s differentiated customer proposition. Focus will be on the 2017 launch, whilst also overseeing the imminent Alpha release. Scott comes to Starling from PayPal, where as head of product-digital goods, he led a large product team responsible for delivering global payment experiences for merchants selling digital media. In doing so, he managed a portfolio of products that processed billions of dollars for market-leading merchants in the video-game, music, video and social media space. He has also spent time at American Express and PwC, focusing on strategic planning and business development.
Scottish American Investment Company
The board of the Scottish American Investment Company has appointed Sir Nicholas Macpherson as a non-executive director. Nicholas was permanent secretary to the Treasury from 2005 to 2016, leading the department through the global economic and financial crisis. Prior to that, he held a number of senior posts at the Treasury, including heading the spending and tax directorates. In the 1990s, he was principal private secretary to Ken Clarke and Gordon Brown. He is currently chairman of C Hoare and Co, and is a visiting professor at King’s College London.
Old Mutual Wealth Private Client Advisers
Old Mutual Wealth Private Client Advisers has appointed Dominic Rose to lead the firm’s growth strategy in London. The national wealth management business leveraging Old Mutual Wealth’s expertise in advice, investment and discretionary fund management has established a number of regional offices, including London, since launch in 2015. Dominic joins from Bellpenny, where he oversaw the firm’s acquisition strategy for over four years. He will report to managing director Nigel Speirs.
Hub
Mid-market developer Hub has promoted development director Steve Sanham to managing director, as the company looks to consolidate its growth, with its first scheme completing later this, and grow to its pipeline further. Development manager Damien Sharkey has been promoted to associate director for development.Steve joined Hub as development director in October 2013 from Mount Anvil and prior to then he was at Argent, where he delivered the first mixed tenure affordable housing scheme at Kings Cross. Before then, he was at Urban Splash where he delivered schemes including Chimney Pot Park in Salford. As development director, he has overseen the doubling of Hub’s pipeline over the past year to over 1,900 units.
