City boffin with X-factor invents economist rock
EARLIER in the year The Capitalist invited readers to send word of any business-related songs they had come across in the workplace. The request led not only to the door of economist-slash-rocker Andrew Sentance, but also ex-MBA tutor – and friend of Sentance – Peter Cook.
Cook, who gives musical leadership lectures to firms like Lloyds Bank and Credit Suisse, has penned – and published on video-sharing website YouTube – his own anthem about macro-economics, entitled Fiscal Cliff.
“It’s the first rock song I’ve ever heard that manages to rhyme New Orleans, John Maynard Keynes and Bethnal Green,” said Sentance of the musical number. And it seems that Sentance liked what he heard – The Capitalist hears he even played the record for guests at his garden party on Sunday.
It must have gone well, as Cook boasted yesterday: “A personal friend of Simon Cowell has sent it to him, suggesting that he should consider more songs like this.” Watch this space.
