Rugby World Cup 2015: Danny Cipriani accepts England squad omission
Omitted fly-half Danny Cipriani was magnanimous after being left out of England’s squad for the Rugby World Cup although admitted he would have liked more game-time to prove his worth.
Cipriani was a replacement for both of England’s warm-up matches against France, and missed out on selection at full-back as well as his more accustomed No10 position.
The 27-year-old, who was impressive off the bench against Les Bleus in Paris last weekend, will remain on a retained list of players who could yet be called upon should injury strike.
“I would have liked more time to state my case, and I’m very disappointed not to make the squad,” Cipriani wrote on Twitter.
“I wouldn’t be a true competitor if I said I agreed, as we all believe in ourselves. But I had a long way to make up as the squad has been building since 2012.
“I’m going to stay fit and be ready if I’m called upon. Now the call has been made, let’s just all get behind the team.
“World Cup in England, let’s be proud Englishmen and back it.”
