Chevron plant death toll rises to four
Four people have now died at a fire at an oil refinery run by US major Chevron in south Wales and an investigation has been launched into the blaze.
An explosion just after 6pm yesterday in a 730 cubic metre storage tank at the refinery in Rhoscrowther, near Pembrokeshire, killed four contractors, the police said.
A fifth worker is in hospital with serious injuries from the blast, which the manager of the plant Greg Hanggi described as “a huge shock to us all”.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to their families. We will ensure that all employees and contractors are fully supported throughout this difficult time,” he said.
Chevron and Milford Haven Port Authority are investigating the cause of the blast. The storage tank was undergoing maintenance at the time.
