Chelsea can take another big step towards the title with Anfield win
LIVERPOOL v/s CHELSEA
SUNDAY – 1.30PM SKY SPORTS 1
THE conspiracy theorists will be out in force if Liverpool succumb to Chelsea in what will effectively stop Man United breaking the Reds’ record of 18 league titles. However, things rarely work out like that in the modern game and you can be sure that with the prospect of Champions League football still alive, Rafael Benitez will be taking this game seriously.
This clash will almost certainly decide the destination of the title and Carlo Ancelotti will make sure that his side’s 7-0 win against Stoke doesn’t go to their heads. They have already won at Old Trafford and the Emirates this season, so will be hoping to make it a clean sweep of Big Four away games. However, they haven’t won at Anfield in the league since 2005.
Chelsea look the most likely winners to me and are worth backing at around even money; although there is an interesting statistic from Bettorlogic.com which points to a bet on the HT / FT double result as well. Liverpool have scored first in 18 of their last 20 home games, while Chelsea have been trailing at the break in six of their last 10 away games at the Big Four. There have also been at least three goals in 14 of the Blues’ last 20 away games, so it would be no surprise to see the goalkeepers kept busy on Sunday.
With Liverpool having such a strong record of scoring the first goal at Anfield, and Chelsea’s decent record at the Big Four this season, I like the look of Liverpool HT / Chelsea FT at around 28/1. We don’t need to have much on at that price, but this game is far more important for Ancelotti’s side and they could have to show their mettle in the second period.
Spread bettors are advised to buy goals at 2.9 with Sporting Index as I can’t see either side holding back in their quest for the win that they need.
