Cheap divorces for the rich
THE MORE your assets are worth, the less it will cost you to keep them, thanks to Riverview Law.
The fixed-fee legal services firm, which opened in February, is now offering divorce packages for high net worth individuals, “so that the costs of divorce do not eat up a couple’s assets”.
To qualify, you’ll need to have assets in excess of £500,000. The initial conference is a relative bargain at £2,000.
And the lucky soon-to-be-singletons will have at their fingertips the advice of Deborah Bangay QC, who previously represented the ex-wife of former football Ray Parlour, and Katharine Davidson QC, who acted for city broker Richard Grey in his high-profile battle over alimony payments.
The first court appointment will cost £7,500, with a further £25,000 for the financial dispute resolution hearing.
Riverview will offer a fixed bespoke quote should the case go to trial, but The Capitalist understands full divorce proceedings would cost a couple with assets worth £500,000 to £2m around £40,000 – which the company claims is at least 50 per cent cheaper than a top law firm’s standard charges.
Of course, once you add in your diamonds, ski chalets and yachts, you might find your cheque book slightly thinner by the time the deed is done.
