CapCo poised to win Earls Court approval
CAPITAL & Counties (Capco) is poised to be given the go-ahead for its regeneration of Earls Court after Fulham and Hammersmith council officers recommended the £8bn scheme ahead of a planning meeting next week.
Capco’s 77-acre masterplan designed by architect Sir Terry Farrell proposes to demolish the West Kensington site – which includes the Earls Court Exhibition Centre – and replace it with 7,500 new homes, shops and offices.
Documents filed on the council’s website on Tuesday show that officers recommended the approval of the project, making it more likely it will be granted consent by the council’s planning committee next Wednesday.
The plans then need to be signed off by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea at another planning meeting in late October.
The development, which also envisions a new primary school, a health centre and library, is expected to create more than 12,000 jobs.
In March, the group received planning consent to convert the nearby Seagrave Road car park into 808 homes. Work is set to begin on the site in 2013.
