Candidate Lammy: Met police not visible enough
METROPOLITAN Police offers need to be more “visible” to fight crime in the capital, according to a new report of from the Policy Exchange think tank and Labour mayoral hopeful David Lammy.
The new report says that the Met has just over 10 per cent of its officers “visible and available” to the public – a number that trails nearly all of the other police forces in the country.
Thirty-eight of 43 forces in England and Wales have better police presence, according to the report. London comes in behind all of the other large urban police forces, except for the West Midlands, the report said.
Lammy, who is also the MP for Tottenham, said: “We need to ensure that we get more police officers on the streets and that they are seen by everyone – so that ordinary families feel safe and potential criminals feel anything but safe.”
