Calmer markets come off sharp gains
European bourses edged slightly lower at the open, as tensions over Ukraine ease but investors remain cautious.
Ukrainian prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has just said that Russian “aggression” is having an extremely negative effect on the country’s struggling economy.
The US has demanded Russian forces are pulled back from Crimea.
Russia’s Micex index fell 1.8 per cent to 1,331 at the open, having gained yesterday half of what it lost Monday. It’s now up 0.1 per cent at 1,344.
The FTSE is 0.3 per cent softer, the Dax is down 0.4 per cent, as is the CAC 40. The Ibex is down 0.3 per cent, along with the FTSE MIB.
