Businesses warn against Olympia tube line closure
A CONSORTIUM of businesses has joined forces to warn the government against its proposed closure of part of the district line in west London, arguing that it will have “dire consequences for the local economy.”
In a letter to Transport for London’s managing director Mike Brown, several members of the events industry have said that the permanent closure of the Olympia line during the week would lead to the “slow death” of the Olympia Exhibition Centre, which hosts major trade and consumer events such as the Brit Awards.
Firms including Emap Connect and Reed Exhibitions say the closure would deter people from attending events, as 73 per cent of its 1.1bn visitors use the tube service in order to reach the exhibition centre.
The consultation period ends today.
