Build United’s future around me, says Vidic
NEMANJA VIDIC last night angrily scotched rumours he is ready to quit Manchester United, insisting he wants to become an integral part of the club’s next generation.
The Serbian’s future at Old Trafford has been thrown into question in recent weeks amid reports his wife Ana is unhappy in the north-west.
The rumours followed an interview which Vidic gave in Russia last year when he described living in Britain as “joyless” while indicating his desire to play in a warmer climate with the amount of rainfall in Manchester.
But the centre-back now seems to have made a U-turn, insisting he wants to stay at Old Trafford and become the next club stalwart that Sir Alex Ferguson builds his team around.
“I am glad to have been part of this club for so many years and if I could be one of the bases on which a new team is built I would be very happy,” Vidic said.
“I have never said I want to go and play in another country. Other people have spoken or written about it and I am not happy with that.
“But I have said in the past what I think. I don’t want to keep talking about it because I can’t stop what people say. The fact is I am happy here.”
