Brum boss McLeish lines up swoop for Italian duo
BIRMINGHAM City boss Alex McLeish is lining up an audacious swoop to land experienced Italian duo Mauro Camoranesi and Fabio Grosso.
Camoranesi, 33, has been linked with a move away from Italy after eight years at Juventus and the midfielder’s agent has confirmed the Blues have made an approach.
“There was an official contact with Birmingham,” said agent Sergio Fortunato. “They
made a proposal and I have discussed it with Juventus. Birmingham are a respectable
team and the Premier League is a good league.”
The Argentina-born midfielder has also been linked with newly promoted La Liga side,
Hercules, but Fortunato says his client would prefer to hold out for a higher profile move.
“With all due respect to the Spanish club, Mauro wants something more than a newly-promoted team.”
In a double swoop on Juve, McLeish is also targeting out-of-favour left-back Grosso on a season-long loan, but faces stiff competition from Bologna.
Grosso, 32, only joined Juventus last year after short spells at Inter Milan and Lyon but has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico.
The experienced pair have won over 100 Italy caps between them and Grosso converted the deciding penalty as Italy beat France in the 2006 World Cup final
