British Gas shuffles seasonal work
British Gas engineers will get a pay rise of more than a tenth in return for working longer hours in the winter to tackle higher numbers of gas and electricity problems, it emerged yesterday. The parent company of British Gas, Centrica, and the GMB union have negotiated a deal under which the firm’s 8,000 engineers will receive an 11.3 per cent rise in exchange for working a 45-hour week. The deal means the engineers will work longer between November and February, but will work only 28 hours a week between May and August when there is less pressure on the power network.
