British Gas profits fuelled by freezing winter
BRITISH Gas has seen profits rise in the first quarter of the year after the freezing winter saw households using more heating.
Parent company Centrica said that gas usage was seven per cent higher than in the same period in 2009.
Electricity consumption also up two per cent and British Gas is expected to turn in a “strong performance” for the full year.
British Gas said average bills for its 15.9m customers in the first quarter of 2010 were lower than a year earlier due to its seven gas price cut in February.
The company said in statement: “Overall the outlook for group earnings for the full year remains positive, subject to the usual variables of commodity price movements and weather patterns.”
