Boss Smith remains coy despite ninth SPL title
RANGERS manager Walter Smith refused to say whether he would be back at Ibrox next season after steering the club to the Scottish Premier League title.
Kyle Lafferty’s 17th minute strike was enough to hand the Gers a 1-0 victory at Hibernian and clinch the title with three matches to play.
Smith has now led Rangers to nine titles in his two spells with the club but has been working without a contract since January due to the club’s financial concerns.
But despite celebrating a second successive league success, the former Scotland and Everton chief would not be drawn on whether he’d be at the club to defend it next year.
Asked if he had the appetite for further success, he said: “It always gives you an appetite. That’s what you’re in it for, to win games.
“It seems to be one of the hardest [title] but maybe I’ve felt like that after every one of them.”
Captain David Weir added: “He’s the man.”
