Boris fails in tickets bid
MAYOR of London Boris Johnson admits he is “cheesed off” after becoming one of an estimated 250,000 people to miss out on their initial bids for London 2012 tickets.
Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Bradley Wiggins said he had also lost out, while teenage diving sensation Tom Daley fears his mother may not be able to witness him competing on home soil after the bulk of her applications failed.
The last of the millions of successful applicants have this week been charged for the tickets allocated to them by the controversial ballot system, although they are yet to be told which events they will get to see.
“I am personally disappointed not to have got any tickets but I shall try again,” said Johnson. “Clearly it’s been a massively popular thing and there’s no surprise the event has attracted so much demand for tickets but I’m massively disappointed and cheesed off.”
Unsuccessful applicants will have priority if they enter the second ballot next month. Wiggins, who is aiming to add to his three golds at next summer’s event, missed out, writing on Twitter: “Sorry kids, going to have to watch dad on the telly.”
Daley, one of Britain’s best medal hopes, also expressed frustration at his family’s attempts on the social networking site, adding: “Mum had the money taken from the bank for the Olympic tickets! But only 1/4 of what she wanted! I hope my family get tickets to watch me!!!!”
