Boris could use Ken precedent for MP return
BORIS Johnson is considering whether Ken Livingstone set a precedent that could allow the Mayor to make an early return to the House of Commons, City A.M. understands.
Livingstone spent 13 months as both Mayor of London and MP in 2000-2001, which could make it easier for Johnson to justify a return to parliament at the 2015 general election without quitting City Hall.
Yesterday City A.M. asked Johnson if he could clarify his position amid reports he would not stand in 2015. The Mayor replied: “No, certainly not. What I can say is I’ve been elected to serve as Mayor of London and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Sources close to the Mayor said “all options are open”, although he is unlikely to return as MP in the period between the 2015 election and the end of his Mayoral term in 2016.
It is thought the latest Johnson election report came from a briefing by a senior Tory cabinet minister.
