BILL OF THE WEEK
CHINESE food has long been a favourite of City slickers in search of (relatively) cost-effective comfort food at the weekend, particularly when there’s no excuse to put the bill on expenses.
So it was off to Goldfish in Hampstead last weekend for this group of well-heeled locals, who chowed down on crispy duck, wasabi prawns, Chilean sea bass, ostrich and lobster, followed by the bizarre-sounding avocado coconut icecream and banana fritters.
Five glasses of Laurent Perrier champagne, three bottles of Chassagne Montrachet white burgundy and two of Chateau Cantenac Brown red Bordeaux later, the group were presented with a bill that was rather less painful than most, at an eminently reasonable £999.50. And how refreshing to see a London service charge left to patrons’ discretion for once?
