Becks closing on Miami side
FORMER England captain David Beckham has reiterated his intention to set up a Major League Soccer team in the United States but refused to comment on reports that he has decided on Miami as the location.
Beckham, who retired from playing in May, has until December to exercise an option, negotiated when he joined Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007, to buy an MLS franchise for a discounted price of $25m (£15.5m).
“A year ago I had a look around,” said the 38-year-old. “Miami was one of the places, but we have looked at others too. It is exciting. Being an owner of a team is something that I’m passionate about.”
The former midfielder is thought to be hoping to raise money towards the running of the team and the cost of building a new stadium.
