Be careful what you say, your TV may be listening
The Capitalist is often on the look out for the latest tech, and the new smart TV from Samsung is certainly attention grabbing. It comes with on-demand TV, mobile applications and a screen resolution four times higher than average HD.
The problem is that you may just have caught its attention too.
The device’s voice recognition technology records the words of people nearby, and then passes them on to a third party, turning every living room into an audio only version of “Gogglebox”.
What’s more, the technology company’s privacy policy for the product is unusually candid about the depth of data it will collect right from the heart of your living room.If that wasn’t enough, The smart TV also gathers data from your viewing habits, browser information, cookies and text-based queries. Samsung also advises its customers that video or apps provided by a third party will have their own privacy policies for which Samsung is not responsible.
In fairness, you can turn the voice recognition off. Maybe wise, unless you want to feel that it’s the TV who’s watching you…
