Batting pair stand firm to frustrate the tourists
A RESILIENT stand of 81 between Junaid Siddique and Mushfiqur Rahim added to England’s frustration as Bangladesh battled bravely in hope of saving the first Test in Chittagong.
Chasing an unlikely 512, the pair guided the Tigers to 191-5 at the close after England’s four-pronged bowling attack toiled in the blistering heat.
The tourists added a further 78 runs to their overnight total before captain Alastair Cook declared on 209-7.
Ian Bell finished unbeaten on 39.
This gave England over five sessions to skittle the Tigers – and they wasted no time with Swann and debutant Steven Finn accounting for openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes.
Tim Bresnan (2-45) then snared Aftab Ahmed and Mohammad Mahmudullah before Swann’s lbw of Shakib Al Hasan left the Tigers floundering on 110-5 before the late flurry.
