Barclays’ finance boss Chris Lucas to leave in coming days
FINANCE director Chris Lucas is leaving Barclays sooner than expected on grounds of ill health, the bank is expected to announce today.
In February the board member revealed his plans to quit and was expected to stay until early 2014.
But he has accelerated the timetable, which will see JP Morgan’s chief finance officer Tushar Morzaria take over the job.
It comes at a time of major financial changes at the bank.
Barclays is preparing to reveal next month its full plans to meet the Bank of England’s demands to raise more capital.
The lender’s fundraising deal with Qatar in 2008 is also being scrutinised by the authorities.
And it is considering closing or selling its retail business in the UAE. The unit is currently profitable, but the bank is understood to be weighing up the long-term future of the operation.
