Barclays brokers leapfrog over Citi
BARCLAYS overtook rival Citigroup in the FTSE 100 broker rankings for the first time last quarter after winning a contract to be broker for catering giant Compass Group.
The bank’s corporate brokers were appointed to work with the catering company last month, helping take its tally of FTSE 100 customers to 17 from 16.
The win moved the bank up to fifth spot in the quarterly broker rankings, compiled by Adviser Rankings, above Citi, which fell to sixth place with 15 FTSE 100 clients in total.
Barclays’ broking business also gained ground in the FTSE 250, moving from 11th to eighth place after winning three new clients between December and February. It now has 16 clients.
The top four FTSE 100 brokers remained unchanged from last month (see table, right).
Overall, JP Morgan Cazenove remained the most popular brokerage across all FTSE indices despite losing two clients last quarter. Numis and Panmure Gordon also kept pace in second and third spot respectively, adding five new clients each. Canaccord fell out of the top five after losing 11 FTSE clients.
