BADGERS SET PACE AT CITY RUGBY SEVENS
AN invitation side comprising fund managers, traders and brokers yesterday won the annual City Sevens rugby tournament in Richmond, sponsored by Neptune Investment Management.
The City Badgers beat Apollo Multi-Asset Management in a hard fought final, making it the first time in four years that accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers failed to take the top honours.
A host of new teams entered the City Sevens for the first time this year. The Plate competition was won by Cass Business School.
More than 2,000 people turned out to watch the players compete in scorching hot conditions, helping the day’s events to raise more than £18,000 for the Child Bereavement Charity.
Amongst the players were some of the Square Mile and Canary Wharf’s leading lawyers, accountants, investment managers and consultants who ditched the pinstripes in favour of rugby kit and a chance to show off their ball skills. England international Tim Payne was on hand to give the players some tips.
The tournament has been running for 35 years and has firmly established itself as a key date on the City’s calendar of sporting events.
Robin Geffen, founder and managing director of Neptune, said: “We are delighted to support the Neptune City Sevens – not only is it a great day out for all the family but it is a tremendous cause that we feel very privileged to be supporting.”
Victoria Bates is away.
