AVB: Title talk is nonsense
SWANSEA 1 vs CHELSEA 1
CHELSEA manager Andre Villas-Boas believes his side are capable of hauling in third-placed Tottenham and achieving automatic qualification to next season’s Champions League after his side overcame Ashley Cole’s red card to rescue a point at Swansea.
Former Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair put the Welsh side ahead six minutes before half time and the visitors hopes of salvaging at least a point looked remote when Cole was dismissed four minutes from time after he received a second yellow card.
But with time running out Chelsea salvaged an unlikely point when Jose Bosingwa’s drive struck Neil Taylor and rendered Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm helpless. The Blues trail Spurs by seven points, but Villas-Boas is sure his troops can bridge that gap.
“It’s a gap that grows but a couple of weeks ago it was reduced,” he said. “A seven-point gap is nothing. It makes no sense to talk about winning the league, we’re competing for the Champions League. We face [Manchester] United at the weekend and see after that what we can do.”
