Australian Neil Robertson pockets close to £200,000 with maximum 147 break and UK Championship title
Australia's Neil Robertson made history by becoming the first player to compile a maximum 147 break in a UK Championship final as the world No3 dispatched Liang Wenbo of China 10-5 at York’s Barbican Centre last night.
Along with his £150,000 winners’ cheque, the 33-year-old pocketed £44,000 from his perfect break in the sixth frame, the third maximum of his career, as the pair traded blows in an engrossing first session, which Robertson edged 5-3.
Four frames were shared to make it 7-5 before Robertson won three in succession to secure his second UK Championship title in three years.
“It creates such a buzz when you’re on for a 147. To be able to hold myself together on the colours was a moment I will remember of the rest of my life,” said Robertson. “I have never made one in a big final and it was a dream come true.
“The first session was unbelievable. I threw blows at him that would knock down buildings but he just kept coming back and coming back.”
