Arsenal blow as Ozil becomes latest star ruled out until 2015
ARSENAL midfielder Mesut Ozil looks set to be ruled out until the new year after picking up a knee injury during Sunday’s derby defeat to Chelsea.
World Cup winner Ozil played 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge but complained of soreness in his left knee before reporting for international duty ahead of Germany’s Euro 2016 qualifier in Poland on Saturday. A scan conducted in Munich confirmed the 25-year-old has suffered damage to his joint and is now set for a sustained spell on the sidelines.
“The MRI examination revealed a partial rupture of the outer band of the left knee joint,” read a German Football Association statement. “The treatment is six weeks of immobilisation of the joint. Ozil is likely to be out for 10 to 12 weeks.”
Arsenal say it is too early to suggest a definitive time period for Ozil’s recovery, but the news will come as a bitter blow to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger. Ozil joins France duo Oliver Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy on Arsenal’s long-term injury list, while Wenger is also currently without Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Theo Walcott.
