Are you insured for that? Lloyd’s of London staff go over the edge
ANYONE strolling past the Lloyd’s of London building yesterday would have been intrigued by more than Richard Rogers’ striking architecture. Scores of the insurance hub’s staff were pouring over the edge of the building. Not like lemmings, happily; they were abseiling down.
The stunt, all in aid of RedR, a disaster relief charity, saw 120 people make the 250-foot descent, and the teams were hoping to raise £40,000 in total. As an insurer, disaster relief is pretty close to the heart of Lloyd’s – and the event coincided with the group’s one year anniversary as a partner of RedR.
One of the fearless rope-wielding insurers was Chris Harman, director of JLT and a trustee of Lloyd’s Charities Trust, who chatted to The Capitalist ahead of his turn. “I wasn’t worried before, but I’ve just been to the 10th floor and looked down – and thought, ‘oh dear!’”
