Apple Music now has 10m subscribers six months after it launched, it's been reported.
The FT reported that the service, which was launched in June last year, rose despite a fall in global album sales.
It's pretty good news for the service, which offered users a free three-month subscription when it was first unveiled.
Set against Spotify's subscription base of 20m, that's not bad going. Although Spotify, which launched 10 years ago in Stockholm, does boast 75m "active" users (ie. users who use the ad-supported version, rather than paying for a subscription).
Meanwhile, Deezer, the French company which launched in 2007, has more than six million subscribers, and made its intentions clear when it became one of the three streaming services on which the music of The Beatles was made available at the end of last year.
By all accounts, things are looking good for Apple Music. Data by Nielsen published last week showed 16.4 billion songs were streamed last year – although sales of albums fell six per cent, while sales of digital tracks fell 12.5 per cent.
