Anderson top of England pile as T20s approach
WHILE the fate of the Investec Ashes may have been decided, there is still plenty to play for in the race for the England FTI Most Valuable Player Award.
The ranking system rewards players for every run scored, wicket taken and catch held across all three formats of the game.
Fast bowler Jimmy Anderson is currently leading the England FTI MVP after accumulating 241 points at an average of 17.19 per game.
But hot on his heels is fellow seamer Stuart Broad, whose match-winning performance in the fourth Test earned him the highest individual score of the summer. The Nottinghamshire star averages a fraction more than Anderson and has the advantage of captaining his country in T20 cricket.
Bowlers receive higher marks for good economy rates, bowling maidens and dismissing the top order, and batsmen are credited for high run rates and the percentage of the team’s runs they hit.
Graeme Swann, who has played fewer games than Anderson and Broad, has the highest average of any player in the top 10, returning 21.65 per game.
And with two T20 internationals, beginning in Southampton on Thursday, followed by a one-day international series, they’ll all be hoping to finish on a high.
