A land of contrasts and surprises for visitors to enjoy, safe in the knowledge that full Covid-19 security precautions are in place and, what’s more, tourists are automatically insured in the unlikely event of infection.
International Travel Insurance for Andalucia
In these times of the Covid-19 pandemic, Andalucía is known to be a ‘safe destination’ for travellers because full security precautions are in place to prevent the spread of infection, but many people may not be aware that the regional government automatically provides all non-resident international travellers with free Covid insurance when they stay at any type of regulated establishment in Andalucía during 2021.
This is a tremendous bonus, as many travel insurance companies exclude Covid from their cover. What’s more, there is no need to contract this type of insurance: those who meet the requirements are automatically covered. There are no age limits, but any circumstance known by the insured before travelling is excluded.
In the case of a Covid-19 infection during your stay, the insurance covers medical and surgical costs and fees, hospitalisation costs, pharmaceutical costs relating to recovery from Covid, transportation and repatriation, extended hotel stays for the patient after hospitalisation, and their companions (including quarantine).
This automatic insurance will bring instant peace of mind to anyone of any age who is thinking of taking a holiday in the region. So, what can tourists look forward to when they are here, secure in the knowledge that they are covered free of charge in the case of Covid infection?

What to do in Andalucia
For those who like to explore and enjoy a bit of adventure while on holiday, Andalucía has a wealth of unique attractions. For example, the Gruta de la Maravillas, one of the marvels of the Sierra de Aracena mountains, in Huelva province. This is one of the region’s underground treasures, which has been open to the public since 1914 and is right in the centre of the village of Aracena. There are 1200 metres of pathway through the stunning limestone galleries of this cave, a magical world with stalactites, stalagmites, columns, helictites, eccentric rock formations, curtain formations and huge lakes of crystal clear water…an unexpected fantasy world which nobody who visits this area should miss.
If you prefer heights to the underground world and are in or near Malaga province, then the Caminitodel Rey should definitely be on your list of things to do. The name means The King’s Walkway, and it was originally opened by King Alfonso XIII in 1921 as a service path between El Gaitanejo dam and the hydro-electric plant at El Chorro. It fell into disrepair and was closed for years, but has now been restored and reopened as a very popular tourist attraction. It is nearly eight kilometres long in total, with a dizzying stretch which is 100 metres high and crosses the Desfiladero de losGaitanes gorge. This is afantastic experience, which will never be forgotten.
Andalucía is a land of contrasts and surprises, and Almería in the east of the region is no exception. Apart from a wealth of attractions in the province as a whole, the town of Pulpí is home to a giant geode, about eight metres long by two metres high, which is covered with huge gypsum crystals; their transparency and perfection make this geode a jewel of nature and a unique phenomenon worldwide, and an unexpected delight to see.
With so much to offer, Spain’s most southerly region is always a perfect holiday destination for international travellers, but especially so this year with the reassurance of full, free and automatic insurance cover in the case of Covid. Andalucía, taking the worry out of travel.
