BHA cuts length of penalties for whip offences
JOCKEYS have forced the British Horseracing Association’s hand and will now face less stringent penalties for whipping offences.
The number of uses remains at seven in flat races and eight over jumps, but a rider going one strike over the limit will now receive a two-day ban rather than five. A second offence will still be doubled, but it will be from two days to four, and not from five to 10.
BHA chairman Paul Roy said: “These developments represent a carefully considered response to both our monitoring procedures and dialogue with the PJA.”
