Return of our Germans will be just the Teutonic, says Wilshere
ARSENAL midfielder Jack Wilshere expects the imminent return of the club’s World Cup-winning Germany stars to boost the Gunners as they approach a testing spell.
Playmaker Mesut Ozil, vice-captain Per Mertesacker and forward Lukas Podolski are all set to be named in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Everton, having been given an extended holiday to recover from the heroics in Brazil earlier this summer.
That match against the Toffees, who Arsenal failed to beat last term, is followed by the second leg of a £35m Champions League play-off with Besiktas, who held the Gunners to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, and, with a clash against Premier League champions Manchester City also looming, Wilshere believes the addition of the Teutonic trio to provide timely reinforcement.
“Having won the World Cup can have an impact, but the Germans have got a fantastic mentality anyway,” he said. “Last year you saw that – they’re great characters to have in the dressing room. We’re looking forward to getting them back and it is going to make our squad even stronger.”
Aaron Ramsey will be suspended for next week’s home leg against Besiktas while injured fellow midfielder Mikel Arteta is facing a spell on the sidelines.
