Take aim at Silver Bowl with Princling and Scholar
ANOTHER competitive Haydock contest is the William Hill Silver Bowl Handicap (2.20pm), for three-year-olds over a mile.
Many of those entered look to have a couple of pounds up their sleeves, so I’m going to take two runners against the field.
The first of those is PRINCLING for the William Haggas yard.
He was well backed for last weekend’s London Gold Cup before not being declared, and I think he looks a good bet at 7/1 here.
He created a strong impression last time when winning at Wetherby, when a short price to land the spoils.
By Kingman out of a Frankel mare, he’s well-bred, and looks a classic Haggas type that continues to improve with each start.
With Cieren Fallon currently jocked up, he looks a likely runner, and I would be surprised if he doesn’t prove better than his current mark of 87.
The other that catches my eye at a big price is THE RESDEV SCHOLAR for Michael and David Easterby.
With the ground currently soft, and further rain forecast for the week, you want a runner who likes to get their toe in and he fits that bill.
Twice a winner on heavy, he has run a pair of eye-catching races the last twice, most recently over seven furlongs at York last week.
He met trouble in running when finishing third and his effort can be marked up considering that interference.
It’s worth noting that he’ll need 20 runners to come out at the declaration stage, but he looks likely to be declared and if he is balloted out, all stakes will be refunded.
With that in mind, at 25/1, he’s worth chancing each-way.
