Horse Racing Betting Tips: Just back Harry Fry’s fresh chaser to Sting the bookies
JUMP racing fans are in for a real treat this weekend as Cheltenham stages its first meeting of the season over the next two days.
Nigel Twiston-Davies has started the new campaign in good form and looks to hold rock solid chances this afternoon with both Al Dancer (2.35pm) and Wholestone (3.45pm).
Both should take plenty of beating but make limited appeal from a punting perspective.
Nobody rides Cheltenham better than Davy Russell and he’s on a couple of interesting ones for Charles Byrnes this afternoon.
I’m going to tread very carefully at this early stage of the season and just play a couple at big prices in the opening handicap chase (2.00pm) tomorrow.
Harry Fry is another trainer who has made a bright start to the season and I like the look of his JUST A STING at around 12/1.
The seven-year-old appears to be best caught fresh as he showed when winning at Uttoxeter on his reappearance last October.
He is obviously lining up in much smarter company here but has a nice racing weight and shouldn’t be far away.
My other selection requires a fair bit more imagination with recent form figures of PPP.
Jonjo O’Neill had a wretched season last year and has begun this campaign in much better form.
His MINELLA ROCCO lines up here off a mark of just 147 which is nearly 20lbs below the lofty mark he hit a couple of years ago when he finished second in the Gold Cup.
There is a chance he may well have gone at the game, but connections are persisting with him and back at a track we know he loves he may be worth a small each-way punt at 20/1.
