IN SPITE of the return of the monster bonus, it seems bankers are still keen to show they’re savvy when it comes to watching the pennies. This, of course, is all relative, since most people wouldn’t consider forking out £1,017.28 on dinner for three as tantamount to saving money. But one banker in the party insists the restaurant was specifically chosen to test its policy of low mark-ups on reserve wines, so there you go.
The group wetted their whistles with bottles of Krug 1996, Dom Perignon Oenotheque 1995, Louis Roederer Cristal 2002, Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 1996 and Bollinger Grande Annee 2000.
And to soak up all that fizz? Nothing but two plates of chips and two platters of cheese, adding a real touch of class to the proceedings.
