The 5 best ways commuters are beating today’s tube strikes
With delayed services, and stations so crowded that they've had to be closed (and we can see why) many have decided to experiment with new ways to get to work.
If you don't fancy using our guide to navigating the tube strikes, then here are some more innovative options.
On your bike
While this option might seem daunting to some, seasoned cyclists have put together "BikeTheStrike".
The way it works is simple; if you're a cyclist and you'd be happy to guide another slightly apprehensive rider to work, add your details and draw your cycle route on to our #BikeTheStrike action map, which you can find here.
And if you don't have a bike, it's a great couple of days to rent one.
Feeling a bit James Bond?
At first glance boat hire might seem a bit of a luxury choice – but if you're very organised then a trip via the Thames might be an option.
You can get 85 people from pier to pier (say, from Battersea to Canary Wharf) for about £8.36 a person.
Have a wheelie quick journey
You might be regretting a lack of four wheeled transport this week (and car hire is always an option), but if you'd prefer a smaller vehicle, we might have a solution.
Two days of scooter hire will set you back £60. You'd need to have the relevant CBT documentation though.
Another option is to go by taxi. But as blackcab drivers can't hike prices (it would be a good thing if they did), then cabs might be in short supply.
Uber's solution is to stick on surge pricing at times like this – adding a multiplier to the usual fare to ensure that cabs are still available. Economists seem to agree that this is a pretty good policy.
UberX is currently at 2.5x surge pricing this morning #tubestrike #tubestrikes

Just work from home
While bosses might think that left to your own devices you'll be much less productive – economist Stephen Dubner thinks that view could be wrong.
Some experiments have shown that by working from home employees can actually be more productive – by up to 13 per cent.
There are no delays on the way to work (so more hours are worked) and fewer office distractions.
Take a horse
And if you're feeling really adventurous.
