Celtic seal seventh successive Premiership title by thrashing Rangers, while Ibrox club close in on Steven Gerrard
Celtic romped to a seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title and underlined their dominance north of the border after thumping Glasgow rivals Rangers 5-0.
Striker Odsonne Edouard’s double and goals from James Forrest, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor ensured a relentless Celtic were crowned champions with three league games to spare.
Victory also ensured Celtic remain on course to seal back-to-back trebles, with only Motherwell now standing in their way of achieving the feat – the teams meet in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on 19 May.
The latest Old Firm tussle is likely to have proven harrowing viewing for former Liverpool and England skipper Steve Gerrard, who appears set to be appointed boss of the Ibrox side in the coming days.
It is believed that talks have progressed well and Liverpool youth development coach Gerrard is leading the race to replace Graeme Murty at the end of the season.
Murty has been in charge of Rangers, who are three points behind Aberdeen in the race for second place in the Scottish Premiership, since October following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha.
