Which Friends character are you when you’re at work?
In the words of Janice: Oh. My. God. It’s official – Friends is the most streamed TV show of all time. Lasting for 10 series, the well-loved group went through the highs and lows of young adulthood together: several relationships, many different jobs, and a multitude of messy breakups.
They came out the other side more relatable than ever. So, in celebration of one of the world’s most loved series, we wanted to see what kind of Friends you’ll find in the office. Could you be any more excited?
Monica: The Organised One
Monicas may come across as micro-managers, and maybe even control freaks. But they get stuff done.
If they’re in a junior role, they make and get through to-do lists without a hitch. As a manager, they love to have a clear plan in place and execute it to the letter. There’s little wiggle room, but their hard work allows the team to achieve amazing results.
Joey: The Persistent One
Enthusiastic and determined, employees like Joey might not be the most naturally talented in the team, but they have potential and never give up.
Managed well in the right environment, they‘ll eventually end up achieving their goals. With the right training, and maybe a Monica or two to keep them focused, they can become their own Dr Drake Ramoray and be a huge asset to the team.
Rachel: The Personable One
Rachels might not know what they want to do in the long term, but one thing they’re always good at is bringing the team together.
With guidance from more consistent team members, they’ll eventually come up with a plan. And once they’re certain of their path and find their passion, they’ll do everything to get there – even if that means taking some risks.
Chandler: The Reliable One
Employees like Chandler are generally good at the job, but not always the most passionate. They’re looking for purpose and satisfaction and want to do something they really enjoy. But if they find a Joey to get them excited about what they do, they’ll not only be consistent but engaged as well.
Plus, when they do take on responsibilities that they like, Chandlers become enthusiastic and hard-working members of the team.
Phoebe: The Aspirational One
The Phoebes of the working world dream big, but don’t always plan how they’re going to achieve their goals, as they often don’t see any limits or hurdles to their plans, which can make it harder for them to stay focused.
They’re creative and open to all possibilities, but they’re still looking for their niche. Having a mentor to nudge them in the right direction will keep them on track.
Ross: The Expert One
Rosses are very skilled and intelligent, but sometimes this can isolate other members of the team if they focus too much on the detail.
They’re a great resource for more junior members and do amazing things behind the scenes, but they need to work closely with the Phoebes and Joeys to make sure that they don’t get too technical.
Even though it’s been 15 years since the last episode aired, Friends still has relevance today. The characters all have different personalities, with their own strengths and weaknesses, but when they come together magic happens. It’s the same in the workplace – with the right mix of people, a business can achieve great things.
So whether you’re like one particular Friend or a combination of a few, supporting one another can lead to more success at work.
