Louis Van Gaal eyes Manchester United Euro swansong
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists reaching the Champions League final is a realistic objective for his side ahead of his planned departure from Old Trafford at the end of next season.
Midfielder Michael Carrick has been ruled out of the home clash with Wolfsburg tonight, while Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera are doubts as United bid to recover from their opening night Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
“Reaching the final is an aim and winning the final, you need a little bit of luck,” said Van Gaal, who led Ajax to Champions League glory in 1995. “That is realistic,” he added, in relation to United improving enough to win the competition by 2017. When asked for his justifications, the Dutchman said: “Because I did it everywhere.”
