These are the world’s most valuable brands: Apple and Google winners in ranking dominated by tech industry
Apple has been named the world’s most valuable brand, followed by Google and Coca-Cola, once more topping Interbrand’s annual ranking.
The tech industry dominates the ranking, as more than half of the world’s top ten brands are technology companies, according to the Best Global Brands report published today.
Bullish earnings and record-breaking sales of the new iPhone 6S have pushed Apple's value soaring. Now valued at an eye-watering $170bn, the Cupertino tech giant by far outstrips runner-up and rival Google, which landed on $120bn.
Both companies have had their value jump over the year, with Apple’s brand value up 43 per cent and Google’s up 12 per cent.
Burberry comes out top among British brands, landing in 73rd place. Land Rover and Mini also made the top 100, coming in at 87 and 98 respectively.
Rebecca Robins, regional director at Interbrand, said:
In a year where the values of the British brands have seen a mixed pattern, luxury continues to sustain a more consistent trajectory, with Burberry increasing its brand value by five per cent.
The valuation is calculated based on how much sway the firm holds over customers, to which extent it can support higher prices for products, and the company’s financial performance.
